I was fortunate enough to learn about Hand Over Hand through a friend. I was matched with Huy, a young international student. I learned how to use my cell phone apps, how to use WhatsApp to call my family, and how to work with the computer. Thanks to Hand Over Hand for getting me through my difficulties. And of course it was free of any charge!
Hand Over Hand brings me different volunteer experiences compared with other organizations. It focuses on improving the skills of each volunteer and following their meaningful goals. I can tell that it is not wasting my time, but it gives a value to volunteers and other people.
I am Hair styling student at Canadian Beauty College and learned about Hand Over Hand at a Volunteer Fair. I do free haircut for seniors voluntarily. Hand Over Hand got me connected to seniors. I can meet very nice people, build a good network and friends with great attitude.l
Hand Over Hand is an invaluable opportunity to help break down walls between seniors and students and dispel stigma against agism. As a first-year doctoral student in the Clinical and Counselling Psychology Program at University of Toronto, I would be honoured to contribute to H2O through implementing my clinical experiences into senior population suffering from mental health challenges. I am certain that working with seniors will improve the wellbeing of both seniors and students by improving their quality of life and giving meaning to their lives.
